We are looking for an experienced Software Architect to manage and own the overall technical architecture, design and platform strategies for Epson America’s software product development initiatives.  You will see the “big picture” and create long-term, flexible, sustainable, scalable and security platforms for software used by customers and partners.  You will own the technical portion of entire product development process from ideation to implementation and on-going support.  You will provide the framework, standards, methodologies and guidance to the development team and 3rd party vendors around design, documentation, development, testing and production readiness of software products and services. 

 

Collaborate with other professionals to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new software or applications. Using tools and methodologies to create representations for functions and user interface of desired product. Developing high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to create a unified vision for software development which spans our diverse product portfolio. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Define and own overall architecture, including logical and physical views of system structure, security, etc.
  • Define and implement all aspects of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including agile development, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Develop robust and sustainable on-going support model for launched products and services
  • Develop software engineering estimations of work effort based on product specifications, proof-of-concepts, or high-level requirements
  • Collaborate with other professionals to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new software or applications
  • Use tools and methodologies to create representations for functions and user interface of desired product
  • Develop high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility
  • Communicate successfully all concepts and guidelines to development team
  • Oversee, guide, and manage progress of development team to ensure consistency with initial design, adherence to standards, and quality of deliverables
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers
  • Ensure software meets all requirements of quality, security, modifiability, extensibility, etc. for enterprise-scale, public deployments
  • Track record of designing, building and delivering complex software systems
  • Participate as part of the approval process of final product before launch

Relationship Management

  • Responsible for hiring, motivating, evaluating, developing group/department personnel
  • Provides coaching and mentoring to team members
  • Advises management and provides recommendations on personnel and problem issues (that require escalation)
  •  Builds strong relationships with peers and Senior Managers to best meet company goals and objectives
  • Manages and leverages relationships with vendors for a specific product/service (best price, best product, etc)
  • Maintains professional relationships with peers in other corporations and outside organizations

 

Department Management

  • Operates within budgetary constraints, participates in the development of annual budget forecasts; participates in updating and reconciling operating and budget plans as required
  • Develops and maintains written departmental standards and procedures
  • Directly contributes to development of tactical and annual operating plans, defining goals and objectives for the group

 

Requirements

  • Proven experience as software architect, taking products or services from concept to production, as well as on-going maintenance and support
  • Experience in software development and coding in various languages (C#, .NET, Java etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture
  • Excellent knowledge of concept discovery process, software roadmap, Agile release planning, maintenance, and management of technical debt
  • Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability, or experience building scalable, reliable applications on mobile platforms
  • Experience defining software architecture ability to determine technical feasibility and trade-offs
  • Experience in working with APIs, development and integration of software and services with hardware
  • Excellent knowledge of UML and other modeling methods
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS, JavaScript and UI/UX design
  • Experience with products that include both hardware device and accompanying software
  • Experience with mobile apps, desktop software, web applications, cloud, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data mining, Voice UI
  • A technical mindset with great attention to detail
  • High quality organizational and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and growth software developers
  • Highly innovative, self-directed and able to deal well with ambiguous problems
  • Outstanding communication and presentation abilities with both technical and non-technical peers
  • MSc/MA in computer science, engineering or relevant field
