Assistant Manager - Key Responsibilities

Distribution Center Operations

• Manage all shift functions related to the physical shipping and receiving of inventory to ensure that all records are accurately maintained, inventory properly controlled, and orders filled in an efficient and timely manner.
• Develop and recommend performance standards and targets for designated area(s).
• Develop shipping, receiving and quality process recommendations to ensure maximum efficiencies are gained and performance standards are met.
• Ensure outbound carrier schedules and appointments are coordinated to meet targeted time frames.
• Ensure customer compliance requirements are adhered to for all outbound shipments.
• Provide reporting, performs analysis, and makes recommendations to Manager related to performance of designated area and implements improvements.
• Manage administrative functions related to shipping, receiving, inventory and other tasks as assigned.
• Participate in the development, actively supports, and executes safety, security, and facility maintenance programs.

Quality and Environmental Management Systems

• Ensure team is trained and utilizes Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001-2000) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
• Ensure systems are continually improving.
• Participate in third party audits of the systems.

Relationship Management 

• Responsible for hiring, motivating, evaluating, developing group/department personnel.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to team members.
• Advise management and provides recommendations on personnel and problem issues ( that require escalation).
• Build strong relationships with peers and Senior Managers to best meet company goals and objectives.
• Manage and leverages relationships with vendors for a specific product/service (best price, best product, etc).
• Maintain professional relationships with peers in other corporations and outside organizations.

Department Management

• Operate within budgetary constraints, participates in the development of annual budget forecasts; participates in updating and reconciling operating and budget plans as required.
• Develop and maintains written departmental standards and procedures.
• Directly contribute to development of tactical and annual operating plans, defining goals and objectives for the group.

What You’ll Bring

People Leadership & Culture

• 2+ years of progressive warehouse or distribution leadership experience, including leading through supervisors and frontline leaders
• Proven success coaching, developing, and holding teams accountable in a fair and consistent manner
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to build trust, motivate teams, and maintain visibility on the warehouse floor
• Demonstrated ability to create a culture of accountability, engagement, and respect aligned with company values

Operational & Strategic Expertise

• Experience in inbound, outbound, inventory control, and rework operations within a high-volume distribution environment.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate challenges, interpret performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement.
• Experience with WMS platforms (SAP, EWM, or similar) and process optimization initiatives.

Change & Business Leadership

• Experience leading operational or cultural change, including managing resistance constructively and sustaining improvements.
• Ability to align teams around clear goals, communicate effectively across functions, and reinforce company values through actions and results.
